Eday, 'the Castle', West Side remains a possible medieval castle on the Orkney Islands, its identity more imagined than proven. The name suggests a defensive structure or noble residence, yet no wall, chamber or dated event survives to confirm the claim. A castle may have stood there, or the word castle may have entered the local tongue through pride, fear or mistake. The west side of Eday keeps that uncertainty alive, casting a shadow larger than any building left behind.
