Drumshallon monastery gave Priorstown its name, and local tradition claims its walls still stand buried inside the roadside stone. That simple belief turns an ordinary boundary into a chamber where forgotten prayers may still echo. People pass the stones daily, unaware they walk beside a monastery that surrendered its identity to the town rather than disappearing entirely.

Local tradition that the walls of a monastery from which the townland took its name (IFC Schools MSS 674, 151) are preserved in the roadside walls. The above description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991).
