Ecclesiastical site in Lissybroder

Neary (1914, 104-5, no. 156 in text but correctly no. 155; see page 128) notes that by the late 17th C 'only a Prior and four [Franciscan] Friars remained' at Dunmore (GA017-005001-). These men 'took refuge in a hermitage at Mayfield, or Louth lodge' just SSW of Dunmore. In 1720 the hermitage is described as possessing 'a commodious chapel and house' (ibid.) but it was abandoned in 1809 when the friars moved to Athlone.
