Eccleshall Castle

Eccleshall Castle was built in the 12th century by the Peverel family, later held by the Earls of Chester, and played a key role in the administration of the county of Staffordshire. It is important as one of the few remaining motte-and-bailey castles in the region and as a historical seat of local governance.
