Eaton Stannard Barrett

Eaton Stannard Barrett was born in 1786 in County Cork, Ireland, the son of Richard Barrett and possibly Eleanor Stannard. He became a sharp satirist and author of The Heroine, a comic novel that amused Jane Austen and captivated Edgar Allan Poe. Barrett died young in 1820, perhaps fleeing debt or succumbing to tuberculosis, leaving behind a vivid literary voice and a life shrouded in mystery.
