Easter Rova Head is a basaltic sea cliff formed during the Paleogene period, approximately 60 to 55 million years ago, as a result of volcanic activity associated with the North Atlantic Igneous Province. It is notable for its resistant basalt rock formations and its role as a prominent coastal landmark in the Shetland Islands.
