What is recorded here

In marshy inch, immediately E of low earthen bank of Awbeg River; adjacent to weir at narrow point in river. Indicated on 1906 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps as arc of bank (N->SSE). Low wide earthen bank (Wth at top 1.8m; Wth at base 4.1m; H c. 0.8m) forms semicircle with opening facing river; both ends terminate c. 6m short of river bank. Southern half stony and covered by trees; N half slightly lower and clear of overgrowth. Interior muddy with some standing water; roughly at same level as surrounding inch. Nature of site unclear but similar feature at Carrigacooleen (9187). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
