Earthwork in Moorstown (inishlounaght Par.)

In the field immediately N of the tower house (TS076-039001-) and bawn (TS076-039002-) at Moorstown, these earthworks were identified on an aerial photograph (CUCAP 13 July 1966 APA 2) and are visible on ASIAP (298) 20 and 21, 13-09-2000. The earthworks do not form any discernible pattern and may be the result of backfilled quarry activity. There is an unusual rectangular structure (int. dims. 10.1m N-S; 13m E-W; ext. dims. 12.9m N-S; c. 16.5m E-W) c. 20m N of the N wall of the bawn. It is defined by a trench which appears to have been filled with limestone rubble, the W side is built into a terrace which extends to the N and S. The interior is level, the ground slopes to the E beyond the eastern limit of the structure. The date and function of this structure is unknown.
