Earthwork in Glenbeha

Situated in flat, marshy terrain adjacent to river which flows N-S immediately E of site. Site identified as roughly oval-shaped feature on aerial photograph (GSI June 1973 S.83/2). Site consists of slightly raised semi-circular area (28.5m N-S; 13m E-W to base of flood bank on W side; H 0.36m) at edge of river, with river forming E boundary. Flood bank has been built up along river bank c.4m wide with stream c.6m beyond this. Interior is very hummocky compared to rest of field. Area immediately surrounding site is quite low, very wet and marshy. Quite regular area however area surrounding it appears to be part of drainage scheme. Site cannot be definitely said to be archaeological. No enclosing element, a platform. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
