Earthwork in Eden

This record refers to an earthwork, known locally as ‘Winneen', which was recorded in Eden townland in the early 1900’s by Knox (1911, 316-7). He described it as a trapazoidal platform, measuring ‘about 44 yards [40m] on the north side, 34 yards [31m] on the west, 16 [14m] on the south; 46 [42m] on the east’ and noted that the ‘banks along the northern and eastern sides seem to be but ordinary farm fences. Yet it is probable that they are original ramparts which have been used and trimmed as fences, and the ramparts of the west and south sides have been obliterated.’ The location of this possible has not been established.
