Carrig Island holds a semi-circular earthwork inside its ecclesiastical enclosure, marked by a scarp and a holy well buried in a southern field bank. The post-1700 boundary cuts across the eastern edge, proving the site survived changing ownership and agricultural practice. People may have shaped the soil for prayer, gathering or memory before written records appeared. The intact curve suggests continuity rather than abandonment, keeping the island's older life visible beneath later fields.
