Earthwork in Ballynakill Big

No surface remains visible. The 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map appears to depict either a sunken area enclosed by a fosse or a mound enclosed by a fosse. It is not clear if this is an archaeological feature or a natural feature such as a small pond or quarry. No feature is depicted at this location on the revised 1908 edition of the OS 6-inch map. Recorded in 1977 as, 'Completely levelled. The site is marked as a low gentle rise in well drained pasture land. This was probably a ringfort. There are moderate views to north & west & restricted views in other directions' (SMR File 1977).
