Earthwork in Ballyfermot Lower

Earthwork

What is recorded here

Austin Cooper saw a large bank northeast of the castle in 1781 and wondered whether it was a mount or rath. That much of a ridge still stands in Ballyfermot Lower, large enough to have blocked a view or marked a boundary. People may have climbed it, watched the land or simply avoided walking through it. Cooper did not know, and neither do I.
Austin Cooper in 1781 describes aa large bank NE of the castle which he thought might have been a 'Mount or rath' (ed. L. Price 1942, 58).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
