Dunyvaig Castle was built by the Macleans of Lochbuie in the 16th century and later held by the Macdonalds of Dunnyveg, who were prominent Clan Donald chieftains. It is remembered as a key stronghold in the history of the Western Isles and as the seat of the Lord of the Isles until the early 17th century.
