What is recorded here
Dunvegan Castle has guarded a sharp Skye inlet since the thirteenth century, becoming the continuing seat of Clan MacLeod through wars, neglect and Victorian reinvention. Alasdair Crotach added the separate Fairy Tower, while later chiefs joined the older parts into one grand baronial silhouette. Children still hunt fifteen hidden keys inside its rooms, turning a noble fortress into a game of discovery.
Dunvegan Castle is shown as a castle on the public map of Highland. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
Dunvegan Castle was built by the Macleod clan, who held it from at least the 13th century. It is important as the historic seat of the Chiefs of the Clan Macleod and a symbol of their long-standing influence in the Scottish Highlands.
