Dunvegan Castle kept its own saw mill and stables beside the main halls, proving that even a noble residence needed ordinary tools and hungry horses. The castle could command respect, but it still required timber shaped by human hands and animals that must be fed.

Dunvegan Castle, located on the Isle of Skye, was the historic seat of the Macleod clan from the 13th century onwards.
