What is recorded here
Detached single-bay two-stage gate lodge with castellations parapet, built c.1840, now vacant. Dressed limestone walls with ashlar string courses. Paired gun loop openings with ashlar dressings and label mouldings. Ashlar limestone entrance gate with castellated parapet to north-west, with Tudor arch opening having a single and a pair of cast-iron gates. Carved stone crest over main gate. Set in roughly dressed limestone boundary walls with castellated parapet.
The gate lodge and entrance gates are of apparent architectural design and were clearly executed by skilled craftsmen. The architectural detailing, such as the castellations, hood mouldings, label mouldings and string courses articulate the forms of the gate lodge and gates. The carved stone crest adds artistic interest. The gate and gate lodge form part of a group of demesne structures with Dunsany Castle, stables, outbuildings, church and other gate lodges.
