Dunlavin

Part of the ancient see lands of Glendalough, Dunlavin appears to have been an episcopal manor with a borough attached to it. While mentioned in an Inquisition of 1326 it seems to have fallen into decay soon afterwards. A mill is referred to in the fourteenth century (MacNeill 1950, 164-6, 190) and the 17th-century parish church (WI015-016001-) was demolished before 1838. The present town is an 18th-century estate town.
