Dukes Stone

This stone is indicated on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch 12 map for Co. Waterford as 'Duke's stone' (WA012-002----), situated on the Waterford/Tipperary boundary. It is a large stone standing (Wth 0.8m; H 1.2m; T 0.35m) up at the point where the county boundary wall changes direction, and it is leaning to one side. The stone may have been set up before the boundary and the boundary subsequently directed towards it. The wall here, as in most of its composition, is 2m wide and has a clay or sod core with outer stone facing. At this point it is 0.6m high on the Waterford side, and 1m high on the Tipperary (down-slope) side. There is a stone drain through the wall c. 2m to the E of the Duke's stone and there is a gap cut in the boundary (Wth c. 3m) about 3m N of it.
