Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Dufftown, Master's Well as Holy Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Dufftown, Master's Well is associated with local traditions of healing and pilgrimage, common to many Scottish holy wells. While no specific saint is named, such wells were often linked to early Christian practices and were believed to have curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and general wellness.
