Downieken Castle

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Downieken Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Downieken Castle was a medieval stronghold, likely built in the late 14th or early 15th century by a local landholding family in the Galloway region of Scotland. It is remembered for its strategic position and as an example of the defensive architecture of the later medieval period in southern Scotland.
