Dora Gorman

Barna, County Galway, is the birthplace of Dora Gorman, a radiologist who captained Ireland's under-seventeen football team to a European final and later played Gaelic football and field hockey for her county. The Atlantic coast did not ask her to choose one discipline; it gave her a body strong enough to carry several. She still belongs to that place, moving through medicine and memory with the same relentless energy she brought to every pitch.
