Doonbeg Castle was built in the 17th century by the O'Donovan family, a prominent Gaelic-Irish clan in the region. It is remembered as an example of early modern tower-house architecture in western Ireland and reflects the defensive and social structures of the time.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
