Doonamo

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Doonamo is a fairy fort in County Mayo, Ireland, where stone walls still stand though human memory has thinned. It may have been a cashel, a ringfort, or a boundary marker before becoming a place people stopped naming openly. The stones do not need approval to remain strange. They wait for attention, not explanation.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
