The Bishop's PalaceHouse · 95 yd

Explorer Tom The Bishop's Palace in Limerick is so posh it probably still wears a monocle. One bishop refused to visit because he couldn't find the key, which is very on-brand for him. Look serious, nod slowly, and pretend you understand.

Hibernian HouseHouse · 108 yd

Explorer Tom Hibernian House would bring its own staircase to any party because it knows it’s the best thing there. Built for a big shot, but now it just stands there looking fancy and confused. Go with someone who loves arguing about plasterwork details.

hall120 yd

Explorer Tom Hall in Limerick Municipal Borough is showing off its temperance façade like a peacock. I bet the first owner hid his escape route behind a barrel of whiskey, just to be cheeky. Tell the kids it's a castle for drunks.

General Post OfficePost office · 131 yd

Explorer Tom General Post Office on Henry Street is dressed up for a fancy ball it never planned. Legend says they smuggled whole whales through the mail slot back in the day. Bring biscuits, every good story needs a sweet ending.

Limerick General Post OfficePost office · 151 yd

Explorer Tom Limerick General Post Office would definitely bring a stack of unpaid bills to any party it attended, which would be a real conversation starter. It’s Art Deco style with clean lines that look like they were drawn by someone who never actually held a pencil, so just admire the façade from across the street and don’t check your mail.

store/warehouse160 yd

Explorer Tom Store or warehouse in Limerick Municipal Borough is a former corn store that ended up in the wrong place by accident and decided to stay because it liked the view. It’s now apartments and shops, but I bet it still smells like grain and regret at night. Don’t knock on the doors, they’re probably just dreaming of ships!

market place178 yd

Explorer Tom Market place in Limerick would survive a zombie attack by hiding under its decorative parapet, using its low profile to blend in with the street furniture. It was once a garage, then an info center, so it’s seen some wild stuff but still looks classy from Lower Glentworth Street. Keep your eyes on the details and hope the zombies are too busy eating cars.

Limerick Seamen's MemorialMemorial · 180 yd

Explorer Tom Limerick Seamen’s Memorial has strict rules: no running, no shouting, and definitely no wet socks. It remembers when ships were bringing goods into Ireland while we sat out the war. Practise your Irish on it, it won’t correct you.

pier/jetty205 yd

Explorer Tom Pier or jetty in Limerick Municipal Borough says it’s the only stable candidate for a job interview because it never sinks. It’s a solid stone landmark on the Shannon. Leave nothing but footprints and some respect.

Shannon IslandIslet · 297 yd

Explorer Tom Shannon Island is where the local sheep hold council meetings to complain about the rowers. Their main grievance is that the oars always land in their best patches. Bring a map, get lost anyway, that's the fun.

Limerick War MemorialMemorial · 493 yd

Explorer Tom The whole parish argued for weeks about where Limerick War Memorial should stand, nearly splitting families in half over it. In the end, they just put it here and stopped complaining entirely. Go on a wet day, it suits the mood perfectly.

King's IslandIsland · 1309 yd

Explorer Tom King's Island is the bit of Limerick the rivers drew for themselves. The Abbey River leaves the Shannon and joins it again, enclosing the island near the old crossing. In the south, Englishtown was once the walled city; to the north is the living neighbourhood of St Mary's Park. King John's Castle probably gave the island its name, although the ground had a story long before his builders arrived. I would try to rule it from a bridge, but the residents have had more than enough of outsiders with grand titles. Public streets and riverside approaches let you see the shape without treating people's homes as attractions. Check the best walking route and keep to open paths along the water. Cross one bridge and come back by another. You will understand the island faster than I can draw it.
