Why this matters

Devil's Jump is a sea cliff composed primarily of Devonian slate, formed around 380 million years ago through the metamorphism of accumulated mud and volcanic ash in a deep marine environment. The cliff is notable for its dramatic coastal exposure and the role it plays in illustrating the region’s complex geological history, including faulting and uplift associated with the Variscan Orogeny.
