Desmond Castle

Archaeological place

What is recorded here

Desmond Castle in Tooreen, County Kerry, is a moss-covered stone heap on a green terrace where the Earl of Desmond hid during his final desperate days. The earl led a major rebellion against English rule in Munster during the 1580s before being killed at Glenageenty in 1583. What remains is not a grand ruin but a small circular mark of a hasty refuge, preserving the moment a powerful magnate became a hunted outlaw in Kerry's rugged landscape.
Desmond Castle is recorded as a archaeological place in County Kerry. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
