What is recorded here
Deal Pier was built in 1835 as a promenade and landing place for cross-Channel traffic, and was later used as a military observation post during both World Wars. It is associated with the development of coastal defenses in Kent and remains an important example of 19th-century engineering and seaside architecture in the region.
