Explorer TomDaventry Country Park wraps a reservoir in trails, birds and enough open air to make Tom forget his own very important timetable. Follow the water, look for ducks and geese, then let the orchard lure you away from the shore. He claims to have trained the swans as ceremonial guards; the swans appear to have other plans.
West Northamptonshire Council manages the park and says the southern part of the reservoir and nearby land became a local nature reserve in 2007. That quieter area supports plants and wildfowl. Elsewhere the park offers a café, paths and places to pause near the water. A community orchard grows British fruit varieties, including local Northamptonshire ones, preserving another small piece of the area's living history.
The council describes a permanent orienteering course and seasonal conservation grazing by sheep. That makes the walk more than a single lap: choose a route, watch how the open water meets meadow and trees, or spend time noticing birds that use the reservoir. Tom could turn an orienteering card into a grand treasure hunt, but the real pleasure is finding your own favourite view. Keep dogs controlled near grazing animals and close gates behind you.
The park is off Northern Way in Daventry and the council says it opens throughout the year, while facilities have separate times and holiday exceptions. Check its current visitor page for parking charges, café and toilet information before travelling. Fires and barbecues are banned. Come with no elaborate plan if you like; a reservoir, orchard and wildlife are quite capable of filling an afternoon on their own.
