This brown commemorative plaque records: Saint Cuthbert Mayne Catholic Priest born near Barnstaple 1544 was put to his death for his faith Launceston Town Square 30th Nov. 1577 after five months imprisonment in this place "In Manus Tuas Domine"
St Cuthbert Mayne was an English Catholic priest executed during the reign of Elizabeth I for refusing to renounce his faith, making him a notable figure in the history of religious persecution and a saint in the Catholic Church.
