What is recorded here
Cooradarrigan holds a small rounded stone with one shallow cup, sitting a metre from a holy well beside a river. The mark is barely two centimetres deep, yet it joins drink, water and memory in a place small enough to touch without ceremony.
In pasture, on the N side of a river and 1m to the S of a holy well (CO139-035----). A single cupmark (diam. 0.06m; D 0.02m) occurs on the smooth rounded top of a stone (0.4m N-S; 0.25m E-W; H 0.3m).
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
Date of upload: 22 December 2009
Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this cupmarked stone may have had ritual or symbolic significance, possibly linked to the nearby holy well. Cupmarked stones are often associated with ceremonial practices, water sources, or territorial markers in prehistoric landscapes.
