Cullaun 1523 OD is a ring-barrow on the summit of Cullaun in County Limerick, Ireland. It sits in rough mountain bog among the Slievefelim Mountains, near the boundary with Falleenadatha. The mound may mark an old boundary or belong to a barrow, while a narrow cut route leads across its top.
On the summit of Cullaun, on a slight NW-facing slope, in rough mountain bog, in the Slievefelim Mountains. Annotated 'Mound' and depicted on the OS 25-inch map as a small oval-shaped earthwork standing on the townland boundary with Falleenadatha. The mound may be related to the OS trig station marking spot height of 1524 ft. OD which is immediately W of the mound. Or may be the remains of a boundary cairn constructed by the Ordnance Survey to mark this boundary.
Monument surveyed by the ASI in 1999 and described as a circular-shaped flat-topped mound (diam. 8m; H 0.3m) of earth and stone defined by a fosse (basal Wth 1.4m; overall Wth 6.3m; D 0.5m). A narrow routeway (Wth 0.6m) is cut (D 0.15m) from the outer edge of the fosse to the top of the mound at E and appears to be a relatively recent modification. Visible as an oval-shaped area of differential growth on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018.
