Explorer Tom Crossmichael has a travellers camp from post-medieval times that probably still smells like woodsmoke and questionable decisions. The dog there is definitely in charge; he looks at you like you’ve stolen his sandwich and your dignity. It’s been a stopover for people who never stay, which is very relatable. Snap one photo, then put the phone away and actually look.
Explorer Tom Crossmichael's war memorial is standing there thinking about how tourists from Dublin keep walking past it without even a nod. It’s got that 20th-century stoicism that says, 'I don't need your attention, I have my own issues.' The wind here is particularly rude, too, so hold onto your hat. If it rains, blame me.
Explorer Tom Threave Castle in Dumfries and Galloway is getting picked on by the wind because it refuses to put on a coat, despite having guns from the 1500s to prove its toughness. It’s got a harbour that looks like it was built for yachts, not pirates, which is a bit of a letdown for the romance factor. The whole place feels like it’s waiting for someone to finally count the crows and give up. C
