Crucifixion plaque in Termonfeckin

Crucifixion plaque

What is recorded here

A small sandstone crucifixion slab stands in a County Louth graveyard, its entire surface carved with the suffering of Christ. The stone measures barely more than half a metre across, yet it carries the weight of every prayer spoken before it. People may have knelt beside it during storms or quiet mornings, seeking mercy through the brutal clarity of the carving.
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 A small sandstone crucifixion slab, roughly rectangular in shape (0.58m by 0.48m, T 0.17m). The entire surface of the slab is taken up with a representation of the Crucifixion. Located in graveyard LH022-041001-.
