What is recorded here
Cross-slab (present location) in Raheen (athenry By.) holds a curved notch that hints at a lost cross shape. The garnet mica-schist lies broken at both ends near the church on High Island, stripped of decoration but not of purpose. It may have marked prayer, warning or belonging before rubble took it from its place.
Recorded by Fisher (2014, 220, no. 47, Fig. 7.8), this cross-slab (H 0.4m; Wth 0.24m; T 0.05m) of garnet mica-schist was found in the rubble in the vicinity of the church (GA021-026014-) on High Island (see GA021-026067-). It is broken at both ends and is undecorated. A curved notch along one edge suggests that the slab may have been cruciform in shape.
