What is recorded here

Half a metre of broken mica-schist lies in southern rubble, its upper left quadrant lost to time. Four deep hollows mark the cross intersection, waiting for hands that stopped praying centuries ago. The slab travelled from High Island, carrying a name no one speaks anymore. What remains is a wound in the stone, still pointing upward.

Originally from High Island (see GA021-026054-). Recorded by Fisher (2014, 213, no. 29, Fig. 7.5), this much-broken disc-headed cross-slab (H 0.55m; Wth 0.29m) of garnet mica-schist was found in rubble to the S of the church enclosure (GA021-026021-). Most of the upper left quadrant is missing. One face is decorated. It bears an outline or low relief Latin cross. Four deep hollows are evident at the intersection of the cross arms. This 9th- to 10th-century cross-slab, originally from High Island, likely served a Christian commemorative or liturgical function. Its relocation and fragmented state suggest later disruption, though its carved cross may have retained symbolic or folkloric significance in the local landscape.
