Swords Glebe holds an Early Christian cross-slab embedded in the tower base, its lunette-shaped top still visible beside the stones. The church claimed the dead long before it claimed the living, and the tower rose around that older truth. A person may have knelt there at dawn, reading marks no longer certain, while the slab kept its own silent company beneath the feet of the faithful.

There is an inscribed Early Christian grave slab fragment built into the base of the residental tower of the church (DU011-034004-) in the SE. It has a lunette-shaped terminal (Swords, K.2009, 103). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Updated by: Christine Baker Date of upload: 08 January 2015

Dated to the Early Christian period, the cross-slab likely served as a grave marker and may reflect early monastic or ecclesiastical activity in the area. Its incorporation into a later church structure suggests continuity of religious use of the site.
