Cross-slab in Sceilg Mhichíl

This cross-slab (L 0.53m; Wth 0.24m; T 0.06m) was found in the main ecclesiastical complex on the NE peak of Sceilg Mhichíl and is now in the care of the OPW (National Monuments Depot, Killarney). The slab, which tapers towards one side of its lower end, features an equal armed Maltese cross (0.12m x 0.12m) defined by a pockmarked groove (Wth 0.01m). This cross has been allocated the SMR number KE066-235---- at its present location in the OPW Depot, Killarney. This cross-slab likely dates to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD) and is associated with the monastic settlement on Sceilg Mhichíl.
