Inishcaltra is a small island in County Clare where a twelfth-century cross-slab still stands beside a saint’s graveyard. The stone measures about 1.62m by 0.6m and carries a Latin cross whose angles are hollowed with circular cuttings. A rectangular panel around the cross-head makes the carving rise into false relief, as if the island itself were holding the shape up from beneath.

Situated immediately W of Teampul na bhFear nGonta (CL029-009015-) in the Saint’s Graveyard (CL029-009030-) on Inis Cealtra, 23.4m from the S wall and 3.9m from the W wall. Noted by Macalister (1916-17, 156, no. 48) as of ‘twelfth-century type’ and described as a slab measuring 5ft 4in (1.62m) by 2ft (0.6m) bearing a Latin cross with the angles hollowed by circular cuttings.
