Inishcaltra is a small Clare island where a buried cross-slab still lies beneath the grass, preserving a double-line Latin cross with hollowed angles. The flat stone rests in the western half of the saint’s graveyard, close enough to the walls for its shadow to have marked prayer, burial or passage for generations. It no longer stands as a warning or display, but it remains present under the sod, waiting for rain, foot traffic or memory to reveal its edges again.

Situated in the W half of the Saint’s graveyard (CL029-009030-) on Inis Cealtra, 12.6m from the S wall and 8.5m from the W wall. A recumbent cross-slab drawn but not numbered on Macalister’s plan of the graveyard (1916-17, pl. XV). This is now completely grassed over but the outline is discernible under the sod (L 1.77m; Wth 0.42m). Probably dates to the early medieval period (5th–12th century), associated with Christian monastic activity on the island. The cross-slab may have marked a grave or served as a commemorative monument, reflecting the spiritual significance of the site.
