What is recorded here
Gallen’s first inventory number stands fourteen hand-spans tall on the east wall, its west-facing cross barely visible beneath centuries of rain. The broken upper arm and hollow sinister pendant suggest a life of touch, perhaps oiling the stone or pressing palms into its depression before the faith changed shape. What remains is not a complete picture but a wound in the picture, the dexter arm and lower ring still holding the line while the rest dissolved into wind.

Inventory of Carved Stone ID 000001
Dimensions: Height 1.43m Width .505m
Standing stone, irregular outline, upper sinister broken off. It bears a ringed cross in relief and each of the lower quadrants has a 'mirror-shaped' pendant. The sinister one contains a hollow depression. The upper part almost all worn away. Dexter arm and lower part of ring survive.
Description from Inventory of Carved Stone, National Monuments Service Archive.
Kendrick, JRSAI 69 (1939) p. 13, pl. iv (no. T10).
Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 10th century, based on the ringed (Celtic) cross design. Such crosses were often associated with Christian worship or waymarking, and may have had both religious and territorial significance.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
