Cross-slab in Eoghanacht

This cross-slab which was drawn by Petrie in 1822 is missing. It bore a double-armed Latin cross that ended in circular terminals containing crosslets. Both sides of the cross were decorated below the lower arms. The decoration on the right side consisted of another two-line cross, while that on the left consisted of a square panel with interlace ornament. An inscription running in two lines below the upper arms read: OR[ÓIT] DO TIGERNAC (Waddell 1973, 23, no. 16). This cross-slab is likely of early medieval Christian origin, dating to between the 8th and 11th centuries. The design suggests a liturgical or commemorative function, possibly marking a burial site or sacred space.
