What is recorded here
No visible trace in the overgrown Carrickaboy Glebe graveyard now, but a broken cross-slab once stood there, its ringed cross carved in low relief across sixty-five centimetres of stone. Whether it marked a burial, a boundary or a prayer forgotten by later hands, the glebe itself has swallowed the answer. What remains is the shape of absence: a cross detailed enough to be remembered, then lost beneath grass and time.
Davies (1948, 81-2) recorded a broken slab decorated with a ringed cross in low relief (Wth 0.65m), within the graveyard of Carrickaboy Glebe church (CV026-014001-). Graveyard is presently overgrown with vegetation. Not located.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Cross-slab in Carrickaboy Glebe likely dates to the early medieval period, associated with Christian burial practices. The ringed cross suggests a ecclesiastical or commemorative function, possibly marking a high-status individual's grave.
