Cross-inscribed stone in Portersgate

A small granite cross (H 0. 0.39m; Wth 0.32m) with a square cross-section (dims 0.1m x 0.1m) was moved c. 1900 from St. Brecaun’s church (WX054-003002-) to the graveyard (WX054-009002-) at Churchtown (Colfer 1978, 13-4). On one face is an incised cross (H 0.21m; Wth 0.11m) with expanded terminals. This cross (WX054-009004-) is probably 18th century in date and is now incorporated in a later memorial, but it is the only physical evidence of a graveyard at St. Brecaun’s church.
