Inishcaltra, an island off the Clare coast, held a small sandstone grave marker bearing an incised Chi-Rho cross from the early seventh century. The stone measured no more than thirty centimetres across and twenty-six centimetres high, yet it marked a life lived beside St Brigid’s church before the wall above it collapsed. It stands today in Clare Museum, Ennis, removed from the island but still carrying the shape of that old faith.

This record is for the original location of a sandstone gravemarker (Wth c. 0.3m; H 0.26m) with incised Chi-Rho cross (early 7th century) from the collapse of the late wall near St Brigid’s church, Inis Cealtra (CL029-009006-) (de Paor 2013, 35, 68).
