Cross-inscribed stone in Gragan East

In reclaimed pasture in a bank of stone spoil against a field boundary flanking the N67. The monument is depicted as located c. 175m further N on Tim Robinson’s map of the Burren (1999) in an area marked Cnocán an Chrochaire and that may be its original location. A quartzite boulder (L 1.2m; Wth 0.8m; H 0.5m) with an apparent cross following the natural contours. The cross, which may be of natural origin, is formed by two ribs crossing at right angles. One is a plain rib (Wth 0.04-0.05m; H 0.03m, L 1m) while the rib in the other direction is flanked by a groove (Wth 0.06m; D 0.015m).
