What is recorded here

This stone cross (L 0.2m; Wth 0.09m; T 0.03m) was found in the main ecclesiastical complex on the NE peak of Sceilg Mhichíl and is now in the care of the OPW (National Monuments Depot, Killarney). It displays a head and two short rounded arms, one higher than the other, and each having slightly rounded angles underneath. The shaft is missing. This cross has been allocated the SMR number KE066-239---- at its present location in the OPW Depot, Killarney. The cross from Sceilg Mhichíl was likely built by early Christian monks in the 7th or 8th century and is associated with the monastic settlement dedicated to St Michael. Its style reflects Insular art, and the site's significance lies in its role as an important early Christian religious center in western Ireland.
