What is recorded here

This stone cross (L 0.48m; Wth 0.25m; T 0.05m) was found in the main ecclesiastical complex on the NE peak of Sceilg Mhichíl and is now in the care of the OPW (National Monuments Depot, Killarney). It has two short rounded arms, each with a rounded angle underneath. The shaft narrows towards the lower end where part of it is missing. The head is also missing. This cross has been allocated the SMR number KE066-241---- at its present location in the OPW Depot, Killarney. The cross from Sceilg Mhichíl was likely built by early Christian monks in the 7th or 8th century and is associated with the monastic site dedicated to St Michael. Its small size and stylized design reflect the insular art tradition of early Ireland.
