Inishcaltra, a small island in County Clare, holds a stone cross-base inside a saint’s graveyard. The flat stone is 1.2m long and has a deep narrow socket, the kind of fitting that could have held a wooden cross or post. It stands a short distance from the spot marked on Macalister’s plan, turned slightly aside as if moved or remembered differently. The dip beside the socket suggests repeated use, perhaps water, foot traffic or the shadow of a cross swinging in the island wind.

Located 9.16m from the S wall and 9.57m from the E wall of the Saint’s graveyard (CL029-009030-) on Inis Cealtra (a short distance from the location indicated on Macalister’s plan of the graveyard (1916-17, 147, no. 13 and Pl. XV) and in a different orientation). A stone (L 1.2m; Wth 0.44m) with a large socket (L 0.94m; Wth 0.15m; D 0.12m), possibly a cross-base. There is a slight dip on the E side of the socket.
