Cross in Dalkey

Situated at the N end of Dalkey town at the junction of Castle Street and Ormeau Dive. The cross is located is within a rectangular walled-in graveyard raised above the level of the road. A sandstone Latin cross close to the N wall of the church (DU023-023002-), the upper arm is broken (L0.84m, Wth 0.7m, T 0.05m). A sandstone Latin cross built in the 10th or 11th century, likely by an early Christian community; it is situated in a walled graveyard and is associated with the early monastic site of Dalkey, dedicated to Saint Kevin. Its survival reflects the area's historical role in early Irish Christianity.
